Sedative Filling

S

Short Description

A temporary dental filling that soothes an irritated tooth nerve and relieves pain while determining if further treatment is needed.

Long Description

A sedative filling is a temporary restorative material used to relieve pain and irritation in a damaged or sensitive tooth. It is often placed when a tooth has deep decay, trauma, or inflammation that may not immediately require a root canal or permanent filling.

These fillings contain soothing materials such as zinc oxide-eugenol, which helps reduce discomfort and allows the tooth to heal. Over time, the dentist evaluates whether the nerve calms down or if additional treatment, like a permanent filling or root canal, is necessary.

Sedative fillings are not meant to be a long-term solution and should be replaced with a permanent restoration. Regular dental follow-ups ensure proper healing and prevent further complications.
