Short Description
A process of replacing the entire acrylic base of a denture while keeping the existing teeth to improve fit and stability.
Long Description
Rebasing is a dental procedure used to refit a denture by replacing its entire acrylic base while preserving the original artificial teeth. Over time, changes in the gums and jawbone can cause dentures to become loose, making rebasing necessary to restore a proper fit.
The procedure involves taking new impressions of the patient’s mouth, removing the old denture base, and fabricating a new one that matches the current shape of the gums. Unlike relining, which only adds material to the existing base, rebasing provides a completely new foundation for the denture.
Rebasing extends the life of a denture without the need for a full replacement. It improves comfort, chewing function, and speech while preventing irritation caused by ill-fitting dentures. Regular dental visits help determine when a rebase is needed.
