Open Enrollment

O

Short Description

A designated period when individuals can enroll in, change, or renew their dental insurance plan without needing a qualifying event.

Long Description

Open enrollment is a specific time frame—usually once a year—when individuals can sign up for, modify, or renew their dental insurance plan. It applies to both employer-sponsored plans and individual marketplace insurance options.

During open enrollment, members can:

  • Choose a new dental plan

  • Add or remove dependents

  • Upgrade or downgrade coverage options

Outside of open enrollment, changes can only be made after a qualifying life event (such as marriage, birth of a child, or job loss). Understanding open enrollment deadlines ensures members do not miss the opportunity to adjust their coverage for the upcoming benefit year.
