Deciduous Teeth

D

Short Description

The first set of teeth in children, also called baby teeth, which are later replaced by permanent teeth.

Long Description

Deciduous teeth, often referred to as baby teeth or primary teeth, are the first set of teeth that emerge in early childhood. There are 20 deciduous teeth—10 in the upper arch and 10 in the lower.

These teeth begin to appear around 6 months of age and usually complete eruption by age 3. They help with chewing, speaking, and guiding permanent teeth into proper position as a child grows.

Deciduous teeth gradually fall out starting around age 6 to make way for permanent (adult) teeth. Though temporary, they play a critical role in early development and should be well cared for to avoid decay or early loss.
