Crown Lengthening

C

Short Description

A surgical procedure that removes gum tissue and/or bone to expose more of a tooth’s structure.

Long Description

Crown lengthening is a minor surgical procedure used to expose more of a tooth’s surface by removing excess gum tissue and sometimes a small amount of bone. It may be done for restorative or cosmetic purposes.

In restorative cases, crown lengthening helps expose enough tooth structure to support a crown or filling, especially when a tooth is broken near the gumline. Cosmetically, it can be used to correct a “gummy smile” by reshaping the gum line.

The procedure is typically performed by a periodontist using local anesthesia. Recovery involves mild soreness, and healing takes a few weeks. It improves access for restorations and enhances gum health and appearance.
