Short Description
Relief from pain without loss of consciousness, often achieved through medication like ibuprofen or nitrous oxide.
Long Description
Analgesia refers to the relief of pain without causing loss of consciousness. In dentistry, it is commonly achieved through topical or oral medications, including nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or nitrous oxide (laughing gas).
It is often used during minor dental procedures or to manage post-treatment discomfort. Unlike anesthesia, analgesia does not block all sensation but focuses on reducing or dulling pain while the patient remains fully awake.
Dentists carefully select analgesic methods based on the procedure type, patient comfort level, and medical history. For more invasive procedures, analgesia may be combined with local anesthesia or sedation.
