Gingivoplasty

G

Short Description

A surgical reshaping of gum tissue to improve appearance or create a healthier gum contour.

Long Description

Gingivoplasty is a dental procedure that involves the reshaping or recontouring of the gums to correct abnormalities in their form. It’s often performed for cosmetic reasons, such as to reduce a “gummy smile” or create a more even gum line.

It may also be used as a follow-up to a gingivectomy, where excess tissue was removed due to gum disease. Gingivoplasty ensures the newly exposed tissue is shaped correctly for both health and aesthetics.

The procedure can be done using a scalpel, laser, or electrosurgery tool, and it usually requires only local anesthesia. Recovery is typically mild, and patients are instructed to follow careful oral hygiene during healing.
