Covered Service

C

Short Description

A dental treatment or procedure that is included under a patient’s insurance plan, either fully or partially paid for by the insurer.

Long Description

A covered service is any dental treatment or procedure that is included in a patient’s insurance benefits. Coverage varies by plan and is typically divided into categories: preventive (cleanings, exams), basic (fillings, extractions), and major (crowns, dentures, implants).

While insurance may cover a service, it does not always mean the entire cost is paid. Many plans require deductibles, copayments, or coinsurance to be paid by the patient. Additionally, services may have frequency limitations (e.g., two cleanings per year) or waiting periods before coverage applies.

Patients should review their certificate of coverage or contact their insurance provider to understand what treatments are covered, any cost-sharing requirements, and restrictions on specific procedures.
