Annual Maximum

A

Short Description

The maximum dollar amount a dental insurance plan will pay for covered services within a benefit year.

Long Description

An annual maximum is the total amount a dental insurance plan will pay for an individual’s dental care within a single benefit year. Once this limit is reached, the policyholder is responsible for any additional dental costs out-of-pocket.

Annual maximums vary by plan and provider, typically ranging from $1,000 to $2,500. Some policies may have separate maximums for different types of care, such as preventive, basic, and major treatments. Unlike medical insurance, most dental plans do not have unlimited coverage.

To maximize benefits, policyholders should plan treatments accordingly, consider spreading out major procedures over multiple years, and take advantage of preventive care, which is often covered at 100% without affecting the annual maximum.
