OVERJET VS PEARL:

While many clinicians use each of these softwares, when clinicians have tested both side by side, they pick Overjet for clinical accuracy and depth. Let’s take a look at why:

Overjet is the pioneer of Segmentation and Quantification in Dental AI. And until recently, Overjet’s been the only tool FDA cleared to segment/outline and quantify oral disease. While Pearl and other AIs were only cleared to put bounding boxes around areas of suspected oral disease.

While Pearl recently received clearance for segmenting carries for patients ages 19 and up, Overjet was stated as the predicate device in their clearance AND Overjet remains the only AI cleared for pediatric carries, anatomical structures, and PARLs.

Furthermore, only Overjet's AI is able to sync Perio charts from PMS softwares to identify patients with potential Perio disease and those that are due for charting.

Here are some examples from a doctor that tested the two software's side by side on the same images.

Overjet correctly measures bone levels from the CEJ point, while earl overestimates bone levels on the distal of #7 and Mesial of #8 due to an inaccurate AI model. Pearl also identifies a false positive carious lesion on the distal of #8. Furthermore, Pearl uses mm measurements on PA images leading to a larger margin of error do to angulation. While Overjet measures in percentages, which is the agreed upon standard per American Association of Periodontology guidelines.

On tooth #3 Pearl do not call out either the distal area with recurrent decay, or the short prosthetic margin on the mesial. In addition poorly measured bone levels on #5, 6, 28, 29, 30, 31, the visual output of Pearl is cluttered with boxes to help visualize restorations. In Overjet’s analysis of this image, the bone levels on tooth #3 have been hidden to clinically appreciate the recurrent decay on the distal of the marginal interface (red) and short margin on the mesial of #3 (yellow box) correctly identified. Bone levels throughout the upper and lower quadrants are also of significantly improved clinical accuracy.

Overjet’s enamel tracing is far more accurate compared to Pearl. You’ll also notice a false positive decay on the mesial of #7 and inaccurate bone level measurements. Overjet correctly identifies recurrent decay on the mesial of #9 that was missed by Pearl’s AI decay algorithm, while providing a clearer more minimalistic clinical presentation.

Overjet delivers significantly more accurate bone level measurements, while Pearl shows both over and under-estimation in the same image. Here, the patient exhibits severe attachment loss, that some measurements indicate loss, some indicate normality, on either side of the same tooth where there is clear horizontal bone loss. In addition to that, calling out endo on tooth #26 with the blue box, indicating a PARL. Tooth #24 measurements have been turned off to illustrate the horizontal bone loss.
